How to secure your Wireless Router Network Security Tips and Tricks

  • Change Default Administrator Passwords and Usernames

  • Turn on Wireless Network Encryption

All Wi-Fi Devices supports some form of encryption. An encryption technology scrambles messages sent over wireless networks so that they cannot be easily read by humans. Several encryption technologies exist for Wi-Fi today including WEP, WPA and WPA2. You will  to pick the best form of encryption compatible with your wireless network. Though WPA2 is more secure, at present WPA is compatible with more client devices.
  •  Turn off remote access-related features


Most routers are accessible over the Internet, so even when you're not at home you can remotely manage and use FTP . Don't turn these features on unless you know what you're doing. And you should turn off the UPnP feature. It lets a UPnP-compatible device change certain router settings without logging in to the Web interface, and it could be exploited by hackers.
  • Change the Default SSID


A router comes with many default settings. Knowing the SSID does not by itself allow your neighbors to break into your network, but it is a start. More importantly, when someone sees a default SSID, they view it is a poorly configured network and one that's inviting attack. Change the default SSID immediately when configuring wireless security on your network.
  • Update Router Firmware Software


Modern network routers contain built-in network firewall, but the option also exists to disable them. Ensure that your router's firewall is turned on. Make sure you always check your router firmware and update it when new update came. Its help improve a router's performance and security.
